The seal number on the bill has to match the seal on the trailer door.

Holiday freight is when people get sloppy. A seal that was cut and replaced, or a number that does not match, is a load you cannot defend. The receiver will refuse it, or they will take it and the claim will be yours.

Check it at both ends

Write the seal number on the bill at the shipper. At the receiver, read the seal before you cut it. If it does not match, stop. Call the broker and the shipper. Do not break a seal that is wrong and then try to explain it.

Take a picture of the seal while it is still on the door.
